63% of exhibition space booked, major brands like MBDA and Bell Helicopter confirm attendance for Airshow at Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali
As the largest archipelagic state in the world and the world’s fourth most populous country, the aviation sector in Indonesia offers a huge amount of potential for growth. Moreover, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) projected that 390 million passengers will fly from and within Indonesia by 2037, making it the world’s fourth largest air travel market. Currently, there are 194 million air travellers annually who utilise the 492 airports around the country, 47 of which are international airports. Indonesia is also planning for 50 new airports around the archipelago in the next 25 years.
Therefore, to accelerate the growth and to further accustom its potential to the international community, the Government of Indonesia has initiated the Bali International Airshow 2024, which will be held at Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali from 18 to 21 September 2024.
The Bali International Airshow 2024 is a collaborative endeavour involving multiple Indonesian Ministries and government agencies which include the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of State-Owned Enterprise, Indonesian Air Forces, and Airport Authorities.
The upcoming event in about 10 months time will serve as a pivotal platform which will unite diverse stakeholders from across Southeast Asia and the rest of the world to show their technology, innovation, and expertise to the participants.
Jodi Mahardi, Indonesia’s Deputy Coordinating Minister of Maritime Sovereignty and Energy, briefed the media that “The Bali International Airshow 2024 will provide many opportunities for service providers to get involved in the development of the aviation and aeronautical industries in Indonesia. We are in a period of hypergrowth as we look for more opportunities to transform Indonesia. The Bali International Airshow 2024 will provide many brands and service providers with opportunities to build partnerships and to be involved with Indonesia, as we plan for the future. This is why the government of Indonesia fully supports the organising of the Bali International Airshow 2024.”
The Bali International Airshow 2024 is aiming to be Southeast Asia’s most eminent international exposition for aerospace, aero technology, and defence. With a dedicated focus on propelling Indonesia to the forefront of the regional aerospace industry, this prestigious event will serve as a pivotal platform that unites diverse stakeholders within the industry, championing aerospace innovation in Southeast Asia and Indonesia.
“Indonesia is home to more than 17,500 islands within its archipelago and extends for more than 600 km. The uniqueness of each island offers a huge potential for growth of the aviation sector and challenges that need to be resolved. There are currently 492 civil airports of various sizes around the archipelago, which will require development and management expertise for growth potential. We believe the Bali International Airshow will have a huge impact in accelerating the development progress.” added Mr Mahardi.
According to the Indonesia National Air Carriers Association (INACA), about 74% (365) are still considered pioneer airports, followed by domestic airports (16%, 80) and international airports (10%, 47). This data shows that huge numbers of improvement, and investment, is needed to increase the development and quality of Indonesian airports.
“As Indonesia begins to ramp up development to raise the economic status and wellbeing of its citizens, there will be a need to expand its air services to support people and logistical movement. Furthermore, the development of the aviation sector will also open up new areas for tourism, business development, and other services. Those also open up new opportunities for development and growth,” said Mr. Mahardi.
The Bali International Airshow 2024, which will from henceforth be organised on a biennial basis, will help propel growth in Indonesia’s aerospace and aviation industries as the country moves forward with its growth plans, which also include the establishment of the new capital – Nusantara – in East Kalimantan.
The organisers have also confirmed that the Bali International Airshow 2024 will also feature air defence exhibitors from around the world. The organisers have confirmed that air defence exhibitors will be able to display their software and hardware at the upcoming airshow in a bid to show off the latest technology in air defence strategies, for the benefit of other governments in the region.
“Air defence exhibitors will be able to show off their capabilities during the Airshow. This will be a unique opportunity to forge new partnerships with governments and other service providers from the region who are expected to attend the event,” said Andy Wismarsyah, President Director of PT Inaro Tujuh Belas, the organisers of the Bali International Airshow 2024.
The organisers have confirmed that to date, more than 63% of space at the Bali Airshow have already been reserved with at least 10 country pavilions either already booked or confirmed. China, India, France, Malaysia, Korea Republic, Italy and Netherlands are among the nations which are set to be present at the Bali International Airshow 2024. Among exhibitors who have confirmed their participation at the Bali International Airshow 2024 are MBDA and Bell Helicopter.
MBDA is a world leader in missile systems, with over 60 years’ experience developing cutting-edge missiles while Bell Helicopter is among the world’s most renowned brands in the business.
Said M. Loïc Piedevache, Corporate Marketing Group Director at MBDA, “The Bali International Airshow 2024 is a perfect opportunity for brands to showcase their expertise especially to prospects in Southeast Asia. We are proud to have already confirmed our space at the event and already looking forward to attending this exhibition”.
Added Sameer Rehman, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Bell, “Given the expanse of the Indonesian archipelago, the potential to meet the evolving vertical lift needs of our customers across various mission segments is huge. Therefore, participating in the Bali International Airshow will give us the unique opportunity to share our expertise, showcase Bell’s versatile portfolio of platforms and engage with our current and future customers to continuously learn how we can remain at the forefront of servicing their needs. The success of our Indonesian customers is key to Bell’s success in the region.”
The event will be held from 18 to 21 September at the Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, and will be the first time that Indonesia will be hosting a regional airshow since the 1996 Jakarta Airshow.
